Projects: The Anna-Foundation Geraldine Matomie The Anna-foundation is bout the 3R’s – reading, writing and running. In the afternoons the Timberlea children gets extra work to do in Afrikaans, English and Life Orientation. We also need to do extra reading. Every month there is a fun run, but in order to be allowed to go to the fun run, the children have to run a kilometre at least twice a week, and attend class regularly.
Some of the children enjoy the work and others find it a bit difficult. All the Timberlea children are welcome at the Media Centre.
Timberlea Eco-schools Seroney Botha The Timberlea children did an eco-schools audit of the farm. The children had to identify the problems (open holes, waste lying around etc.) and then they had to think of solutions for these problems (cover up holes, pick up waste etc.) They also looked at the strengths and weaknesses of the farm. The children also did some microscope work; they took algae samples from the streams on the farm and looked at it under the microscope. They also looked at epithelial cells under the microscope. The children made sketches of what they saw under the microscope, they also had written assignments to do.
